General Introduction                                                                                                                                          
This ASTM D1384 Engine Coolant Corrosion Test Apparatus is designed and manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the People's Republic of China industry standard SH/T 0085 "Test Method for Corrosion of Engine Coolants (Glassware Method)". It is applicable to the determination of the corrosive effect of engine coolants on typical metal test specimens under controlled laboratory conditions. It is suitable for both high-boiling-point and low-boiling-point engine coolants and their concentrates, as well as for rust inhibitors used in engine cooling systems.
Six typical metals used in engine cooling systems are processed into test specimens, weighed, and connected to form a specimen bundle. The bundle is then fully immersed in 750 mL of the test sample, with an air flow rate of 100 mL/min ± 10 mL/min. High-boiling-point coolants and rust inhibitors are tested at 88 °C ± 2 °C, while low-boiling-point coolants are tested at 71 °C ± 2 °C for 336 h ± 2 h. After the test, the specimens are removed, cleaned, and reweighed. The corrosion is evaluated based on the corrected mass change of the specimens before and after the test.
